I generally advise customers not to fit floating shelves on drywall if at all possible. No matter how good your fixings are you’re always ultimately limited by the strength of the plasterboard itself. I’m fitting some Duraline floating shelves on an uneven wall. These are normally relatively simple to fit but the wall causes a few problems due to it being at a dodgy angle.
This is a project where I’m making some very simple floating alcove shelves. These are made in such a way that all of the fixings and supports are hidden. The shelf top and bottoms are made from MDF.
